Biographical Information[edit]

Samo Perko was on the first Slovenian national team in a European Championship, during the 1995 European Championship. He debuted in their second game, relieving Sreco Jugovic in the 3rd inning against Sweden. He worked the final 4 1/3 innings of a 14-0 mercy rule loss and far outpitched his predecessors, allowing two hits, three walks and one unearned run after they had yielded 13 runs (10 earned) before that. He was 2-for-4 in the event, getting hits off Germany's Michael DeGelmini and Ukraine's Oleg Venger. He was 0-1 with a 8.44 ERA in four mound appearances. Only Bogdan Jotic had a better ERA for the team and only Tine Zaletel pitched more innings. He tied Jotic for the team lead in appearances and led them with six strikeouts. Emiliano Ginanneschi was the only pitcher with more games pitched in the 1995 Euros. [1] He later coached youth baseball in Slovenia. [2]
