Biographical Information[edit]

Domen Rotar was on the first Slovenian national team in a European Championship, the 1995 European Championship. In their debut against Italy, he hit 6th and played DH. He was 1-for-2 against Dante Carbini. In addition to being Slovenia's first DH, he was also their first relief pitcher when he moved to the mound in the third to relieve Tine Zaletel with one out. He went 2 1/3 innings and allowed five hits and two runs (one earned), walking none and fanning none, before Bogdan Jotic took over. He was easily Slovenia's best hurler in a 17-1, 5 1/2 inning mercy rule loss. For the event, he hit .278/.316/.500 (homering off Joeri Loykens of Belgium, one of two Slovenian dingers that day, which were their first two in a European Championship; it is unclear if Rotar had the first or second), fielded .917 and was 0-1 with a 19.89 ERA (losing to Germany's Michael DeGelmini). He was third on Slovenia with two RBI, tied for 3rd on the team with two runs, tied Jani Malovic for second on the team in hits (6), was 4th on their 6-man staff in ERA and led the tournament with four wild pitches. In the 1999 European Championship, he batted .308/.438/.462, fielded .909 at short and allowed three runs (one earned) on two hits and two walks in 2/3 IP, striking out one. He led the team in OBP and was in average, slugging and RBI, all behind Matej Berginc. [2]
