Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher Tim Layana was signed as a 3rd round pick in the 1986 amateur draft by the New York Yankees and scout Orrin Freeman. He was drafted out of Loyola Marymount University, where he was a teammate of future major leaguers Jim Bruske and Chris Donnels.
He was killed in a automobile accident in 1999, when his SUV was broadsided by another car. His father Frank Layana played in the minor leagues in the 1950s.
Notable Achievement[edit]
- Won a World Series with the Cincinnati Reds in 1990 (he did not play in the World Series)
