Biographical Information[edit]
Infielder Chris Donnels was signed by the New York Mets and scout Bob Minor as a 1st Round pick (24th overall) of the 1987 amateur draft. After disappointing in his first professional season with the Single-A St. Lucie Mets, Donnels returned to the Florida State League team to win the 1989 league MVP. He led the league with 78 RBI, a slugging percentage of .510, and an on-base percentage of .439. Chris's .313 batting average was second to Andy Mota's .319 and his 17 home runs was second to Julian Yan's 24. His son Tanner Donnels played in the minors and in Switzerland.
