Tim Holland spent eight seasons in professional baseball, including part of one at AAA.

Holland was taken by the Baltimore Orioles in the fifth round of the 1987 amateur draft. He was the first position player they took that year; Steve Finley, David Segui and Jack Voigt would go to Baltimore in later rounds. In his pro debut with the Bluefield Orioles, Holland hit .274/.341/.414. He fielded .899 at short and .873 at third base. Moving up to the Erie Orioles in 1988, Holland struggled with a line of .198/.233/.231 as a utility infielder. Primarily an OF-3B for the 1989 Waterloo Diamonds, Holland made little progress, hitting .202/.259/.289.

With the 1990 Frederick Keys, Tim had a career year, producing at a .302/.363/.439 rate. He was third in the Carolina League in average behind Ken Ramos and Doug Welch. In the finals, he belted a 3-run homer in the last game to help the Keys rally to a 6-5 win and the title. Holland failed to make the league All-Star team, as Greg Blosser, Keith Mitchell, Ramos and Nolan Lane were picked in the outfield and Gary Scott was chosen at third base.

Back to earth in '91, Holland hit .248/.295/.345 with 142 strikeouts in 501 at-bats for the Hagerstown Suns. He fielded .911 at third base, his main position. He led the Eastern League in strikeouts. Returning to Hagerstown in '92, he did a bit worse at the plate (.236/.275/.304) while fielding .907 at the hot corner. Tim split 1993 between the Bowie Baysox (.249/.292/.370, 123 K) and the Rochester Red Wings (4 for 28, BB). He made 42 errors at shortstop that year. His 39 miscues for Bowie led EL shortstops.

Holland bounced around in 1994, his final year. He played one game for the Lafayette Leopards, was 3 for 12 with a walk for the Sarasota Red Sox and hit only .168/.245/.200 in 34 games for the New Britain Red Sox.

Overall, Holland had batted .241/.292/.338 in 747 minor league games, with 294 runs and 284 RBI. He had also pitched two scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out three. Defensively, he appeared at every position except catcher.
