The Erie Orioles represented Erie, PA in the New York-Penn League in 1988 and 1989. They went 46-31 their first season under the leadership of Bobby Tolan, finishing second in the six-team western division. The club allowed 268 runs in 77 games, the lowest rate in the league. Catcher Luis Paulino was the team's sole representative on the league all-star team after hitting .276/~.348/.348. The only future major-leaguer was Stacy Jones, who went 3-3 despite a 1.33 ERA. David Miller was 8-3 with a 1.37 ERA and finished third in the league in ERA. Also posting fine pitching lines were Salvatore Amarena (3-0, 0.41 ERA, 12 hits in 22 IP) and Stephen Mondile (2-2, 12 saves, 1.07).

The club was much worse the next year, going 25-49 and finishing last in the 7-team Stedler Division. Tolan again was the manager. After having the best pitching and defense combo in '88, the team had the worst, posting a 4.84 ERA (.55 worse than 13th-place Auburn) and allowing 21 more runs than any other team. Mike Oquist (7-4, 3.59, 109 K in 98 IP) had the best career of any player from that club, while third baseman Pete Rose Jr. (.276/~.313/.404) was named one of the top 10 prospects in the league according to Baseball America. No Oriole made the league All-Star team.
