December 20: Today's featured birthday is that of Bill Laskey, who turns 67.
- 1935 - The Indians turn an unusual triple play when a liner from Joe Cronin rings off the head of 3B Odell Hale. SS Bill Knickerbocker grabs the ricocheting ball and tosses it to second to start the triple killing.
- 1974 - A pitch by Nolan Ryan is timed at 100.8 mph, a new world record.
- 1988 - In the final game of the 1988 Baseball World Cup, the US leads Cuba, 3-1, going into the 9th, but allows three runs to lose, 4-3. Tino Martinez (pictured), who hits two solo homers in the final game, is named MVP of the tournament despite being on the losing team.
- 1993 - Mark Whiten ties several records with a four-homer game, a 12-RBI game and a 13-RBI effort in a doubleheader.
- 2006 - For the first time in 70 years of Nippon Pro Baseball, a game ends on a walk-off catcher's interference. With a 5-5 tie and the bases loaded, Takahiro Saeki's bat makes contact with Yoshiyuki Ishihara's glove to give the Yokohama BayStars the contest.
