December 20: Today's featured birthday is that of Bill Laskey, who turns 67.
- 1924 - At Ebbets Field, St. Louis Cardinals 1B Jim Bottomley (pictured)'s three singles, double, and two home runs produce a major-league record 12 RBI in the St. Louis 17 - 3 win over the pennant-chasing Brooklyn Robins. Brooklyn manager Wilbert Robinson, watching from the dugout, set the previous record with the Orioles in 1892.
- 1937 - Future Hall of Famer Martin Dihigo pitches the first professional no-hit, no-run game on Mexican soil, a 4-0 victory against Nogales at Veracruz.
- 1960 - At the age of 39, Warren Spahn pitches a no-hitter beating the Philadelphia Phillies 4-0. The crafty lefty sets an all-time Braves record with 15 strikeouts.
- 1975 - Rennie Stennett ties Wilbert Robinson's major league record, set June 10, 1892, by going 7-for-7 in a nine-inning game. The Pittsburgh Pirates' 2B collects two hits each in the 1st and 5th innings, and scores five of his club's runs in a 22 - 0 massacre of the Chicago Cubs, a major-league record for the biggest score in a shutout in the 20th century.
- 1983 - Yutaka Fukumoto hits his 36th homer to lead off a game, setting a new world record. It will be broken by Rickey Henderson.
