- 1915 - Rogers Hornsby goes 0 for 2 in his major league debut. He mans shortstop for the Cardinals in a 7-1 loss.
- 1933 - The first East-West Game is played. Willie Foster throws the only complete game in East-West Game history, while Mule Suttles drives in 3 in a 11-7 win for the West.
- 1971 - Katsuya Nomura reaches 4,018 total bases to set the Nippon Pro Baseball record.
- 1972 - The World Baseball Championship opens. It is intended to replace the Junior World Series but proves to be a failure and this will be its sole year of operation.
- 1974 - Lou Brock (pictured) steals his 104th and 105th bases to break Maury Wills' single-season stolen base record. It also gives him 740 for his career, breaking Max Carey's NL record.
- 1980 - Bill Gullickson strikes out 18 batters, setting a record for rookies in the majors.
