World Baseball Championship

From BR Bullpen

The World Baseball Championship (known officially as the Kodak World Baseball Classic) was a round-robin tournament played in 1972 between the champions of the American Association, International League, Pacific Coast League, the Hawaii Islanders and a group of All-Star players from the Latin American Winter Leagues. The tournament ran from September 10 to September 19, with all games being played at Honolulu Stadium in Honolulu, HI.

Attendance was poor, with only 1,877 fans coming to see hometown Hawaii in the opener and just 992 fans in attendance at the championship game. Plans for future tournaments were shelved, and the Junior World Series was revived in 1973.
