- 1927 - The Yankees complete their sweep of the Pirates in the 1927 World Series. The game is tied at 3 in the 9th when Johnny Miljus throws a wild pitch, letting Earle Combs score the winner.
- 1940 - The Reds beat the Tigers in Game 7 of the World Series, 2-1. Paul Derringer outduels Bobo Newsom, who is working on one day's rest.
- 1945 - The Cubs tie the World Series at three games apiece, beating the Tigers, 8-7. Stan Hack's two-out double to left in the 12th inning ends the contest.
- 1956 - Don Larsen (pictured) throws the only perfect game in World Series history. Sal Maglie allows just two runs and five hits in defeat.
- 1961 - Whitey Ford runs his World Series scoreless inning streak to 32 innings in shutting out the Reds in Game 4 of the 1961 World Series.
