November 16: Today's featured birthday is that of Hector Fajardo, who turns 54.
- 1919 - Eddie Cicotte (pictured) commits two errors in a 2-0 loss as the Reds take a 3-1 lead in the 1919 World Series; Cicotte will later be banned from baseball for helping to throw the Series.
- 1942 - Connie Marrero tosses a three-hit shutout in the final game of the 1942 Amateur World Series to give the Cuban national team the title and revenge against Venezuela's Daniel Canónico, last year's winner.
- 1951 - Monte Irvin gets four hits and steals home to lead the Giants to victory in Game 1 of the 1951 World Series. New York uses the first all-black outfield in World Series history with Irvin, Willie Mays and Hank Thompson.
- 1958 - The Yomiuri Giants sign Waseda Jitsugyo High School pitcher Sadaharu Oh, who will go on to perhaps the greatest career in Nippon Pro Baseball history.
- 2001 - Rickey Henderson homers to score his 2,246th major league run, breaking Ty Cobb's 76-year-old record.
- 2009 - Alex Rodriguez sets a new American League record with 7 RBI in one inning.
