- 1907 - For the first time in Japan, admission is charged for a game, as the semi-pro St. Louis team from Hawaii faces Keio University.
- 1961 - A federal judge says that a Birmingham, AL law against integrated playing fields is illegal, opening way for an integrated Southern Association. The Association folds rather than deal with modernity.
- 1995 - Ten-time All-Star Ryne Sandberg announces he is coming out of retirement to again play with the Chicago Cubs. "Ryno" will hit 25 home runs in his first year back.
- 2001 - For the first time in a World Series in 72 years, a team rallies to tie the score in the bottom of the 9th and win it in extra innings. Tino Martinez hits a two-out, two-run homer off of Byung-Hyun Kim in the 9th and Derek Jeter homers against Kim in the 10th for the 3-2 win. Mariano Rivera gets the victory in Game 4 of the 2001 World Series.
- 2010 - Cuba wins the 2010 Intercontinental Cup (logo pictured), but history is made when two European teams (the Netherlands and Italy) win Silver and Bronze, the first time this has happened in a global baseball event.
