December 26: Today's featured birthday is that of Mario Mendoza, who turns 74.
- 1903 - Bill Dinneen shuts out Pittsburgh to win the first World Series for Boston.
- 1914 - The Miracle Braves complete their stunning season with their upset four-game sweep of the A's in the 1914 World Series.
- 1960 - Bill Mazeroski ends one of the most exciting World Series games ever with a walk-off home run off Ralph Terry to cap the major upset in the 1960 World Series. Bobby Richardson is named Series MVP, the only winner from the losing team in the 20th Century.
- 1971 - The first night game in World Series history is played. Roberto Clemente collects 3 hits and rookie Milt May drives in the winner as Pittsburgh beats the Orioles, 4-3.
- 1985 - Rookie speedster Vince Coleman (pictured) suffers a freak injury when his leg is run over by a tarpaulin machine at Busch Stadium. He will miss the rest of the 1985 NLCS and the 1985 World Series.
- 1991 - Hiromitsu Ochiai draws six walks in one game, a new Nippon Pro Baseball record.
