- 1953 - The Brooklyn Dodgers hire Montreal Royals skipper Walter Alston (pictured) as their new manager. Alston will win 2,040 games in 23 years as Dodgers manager and lead them to their first four World Series titles.
- 1964 - Ken Boyer is named 1964 National League MVP.
- 1976 - Joe Morgan wins his second straight MVP Award, taking the 1976 National League MVP Award over teammate George Foster.
- 2005 - In a major trade, the Florida Marlins get Hanley Ramirez, Anibal Sanchez, Jesús Delgado and Harvey Garcia from the Boston Red Sox for Josh Beckett, Mike Lowell and Guillermo Mota.
- 2021 - 41-year-old Masanori Ishikawa of the Yakult Swallows becomes only the second pitcher over age 40 to win a Japan Series game when he wins Game 4 of the 2021 Japan Series, 2 - 1, after a duel with Orix Buffaloes rookie Soichiro Yamazaki.
