January 11: Today's featured birthday is that of Hank Fischer, who turns 85.
- 1909 - The Tigers and Senators play the longest scoreless game in American League history, going 18 innings. Ed Summers goes the distance for Detroit.
- 1920 - Babe Ruth becomes the first major leaguer to hit 30 home runs in a season. He will end the year with 54, as the live ball era is under way.
- 1964 - Masaichi Kaneda whiffs Mike Krsnich for his 4,000th career strikeout, the first player in NPB history to that level.
- 1978 - Tulsa Drillers starter Dave Righetti (pictured) strikes out a Texas League-record 21 against the Midland Cubs but the Drillers lose in extra innings, 4-2.
- 2006 - Chipper Jones gets an extra-base hit for the 14th game in a row, tying Paul Waner's 79-year-old record.
