December 28: Today's featured birthday is that of Melvin Nieves, who turns 53.
- 1901 - Cy Young (pictured) records the 300th win of his major league career; he still has over 200 wins to go.
- 1921 - Babe Ruth smashes the 127th home run of his major league career, breaking Roger Connor's record, which had stood since the 1890s.
- 1955 - Stan Musial hits a 12th-inning home run to give the National League a 6-5 victory in the 1955 All-Star Game.
- 1979 - After a delay of an hour and 16 minutes, the White Sox are forced to forfeit the second game of twi-night doubleheader against the Tigers when over 5,000 fans refuse to leave the field during a Disco Demolition Night promotion gone awry.
- 1997 - In the first extra-inning combined no-hitter in major league history, Mexican hurlers Francisco Cordova and Ricardo Rincon shut down the Astros for ten innings and Mark Smith hits a three-run pinch homer to end it. It is the first sold-out game in Three Rivers Stadium not on Opening Day since 1977.
