- 1924 - The Cleveland Indians pick up "Tioga" George Burns and two other players from the Boston Red Sox for Steve O'Neill, Bill Wambsganss, Joe Connolly and Danny Boone.
- 1924 - The New York Yankees purchase the contract of Earle Combs (pictured) from the Louisville Colonels, getting a key piece of Murderers' Row in place.
- 1945 - Almendares slugger Roberto Ortiz knocks out umpire Bernardino Rodriguez in an argument at home plate in what is termed the most violent attack in Cuban baseball history.
- 1985 - Lou Brock and Hoyt Wilhelm are voted into the Hall of Fame.
- 1992 - Tom Seaver and Rollie Fingers are elected to the Hall of Fame by the BBWAA.
