December 27: Today's featured birthday is that of Bobby Klaus, who turns 87.
- 1879 - The Cuban Winter League opens play. Havana beats Almendares, 21-20, behind former major leaguer Steve Bellán.
- 1917 - The Philadelphia Phillies pick up slugger Cy Williams (pictured) from the Chicago Cubs for Dode Paskert. Williams will win three home run titles with Philadelphia to give him four for his career.
- 1933 - Jacob Ruppert refuses to let Babe Ruth out of his contract to manage the Cincinnati Reds.
- 2002 - Riverfront Stadium is imploded. The stadium had been the site of Hank Aaron's 714th home run and Pete Rose Sr.'s 4,189th hit among other memorable events.
- 2011 - Former major league pitcher Rosman Garcia is killed when his car skids off the road and hits a tree outside of Caracas, Venezuela. He was playing for the Tigres de Aragua in the Venezuelan League at the time.
