- 1947 - The first Little League World Series is held in Williamsport, PA. The Maynard Midgets will win easily.
- 1957 - Masaichi Kaneda throws the fourth perfect game in Nippon Pro Baseball history.
- 1975 - For the first time in major league history, two brothers team up to pitch a shutout. Rick Reuschel goes 6 1/3 innings before leaving with a blister on his finger and is replaced by Paul Reuschel, who finishes the job.
- 1983 - Donell Nixon (pictured) and Vince Coleman both top Rickey Henderson's modern professional record for steals as they each swipe their 131st of the year. Coleman is on the Macon Redbirds and Nixon on the Bakersfield Mariners.
- 1985 - Stan Wasiak of the Vero Beach Dodgers wins the 2,500th game of his managerial career, the first person to reach that level in the minor leagues.
