- 1901 - Connie Mack accuses Christy Mathewson of backing out of a deal to join the Philadelphia Athletics.
- 1974 - The Los Angeles Dodgers acquire prospect Pedro Guerrero from the Cleveland Indians for pitcher Bruce Ellingsen in a fine deal for the Dodgers.
- 1987 - In one of the most lopsided trades in baseball history, the Oakland Athletics get Dennis Eckersley (pictured) from the Chicago Cubs for minor leaguers Brian Guinn, Dave Wilder and Mark Leonette. Eckersley, seemingly washed-up, will become the top reliever in baseball while the other three fail to make the majors.
- 1996 - Saint Francis College sets 71 NCAA records in a 71-1, four-inning rout of Robert Morris University. LF Mike Holcomb scores a NCAA-record nine runs in the shortened game in the clash of southwestern Pennsylvania schools.
- 2005 - Alex Sánchez becomes the first player suspended for a positive test under Major League Baseball's new steroid policy.
