November 26: Today's featured birthday is that of Sam Militello, who turns 55.
- 1890 - The Brooklyn Bridegrooms, defending champions of the American Association, make their National League debut with a 15-9 loss. They will become the only team to win pennants in two different major leagues in consecutive seasons.
- 1960 - Roger Maris (pictured) homers twice in a fine first game with the New York Yankees; overall, he gets four hits en route to an MVP season.
- 1979 - Star New York Yankees reliever Goose Gossage sprains a thumb ligament in a clubhouse brawl with Cliff Johnson and will be out for almost three months. Johnson will be traded as a result of the fracas.
- 1986 - The Athletics and Mariners break the modern record for strikeouts in a nine-inning game, with 30. Rookie Jose Rijo fans 16 to give him a new Oakland franchise record.
- 1997 - In the first Major League Baseball games in Hawaii, the San Diego Padres muster just one run in a doubleheader loss to the St. Louis Cardinals.
