Talk:Folkert Boerum

From BR Bullpen

Just did a quick newspaper search for "Polkert Boerum", since its such an unusual name. Not a single result. There are a ton of references to "Folkert Boerum" in Brooklyn papers 1856, as there were newspaper notification as an executor of a will. No baseball reference though. But I wonder if it could be Folkert. Jeff (talk) 19:22, 28 November 2023 (UTC)

It's possible. The only sources I found including the name Polkert are various articles online and stuff. I found a few newspapers and searched the name and found a few newspapers with blotchy letters, so I could assume the few people who wrote anything about him mistook a sloppy looking F for a P. I did see the name Folkert in the papers you were talking about so my guess is that it's the same man, especially considering that he played baseball in Brooklyn and that's where the papers came from. Also thought I should mention that the box scores I found only mentioned a catcher named Boerum, no first name so I'm only going on thefew things I found online mentioning anything about Polkert or Folkert potentially if that's the same man. Gothy (talk) 19:36, 28 November 2023 (UTC)

Worth leaving it as is for now. But might put a blurb in there somewhwere suggeting the possibility that the name is Folkert. There's nothing concrete that the Folkert in the papers is the same guy as this Polkert. Jeff (talk) 20:10, 28 November 2023 (UTC)

I think you were correct about his name being Folkert. I was reading a SABR article about the game that the Atlantics played on ice skates in 1861 and it mentions him under the full name of Folkert Rapelje Boerum. Cody n Nelli (talk) 21:34, 19 January 2024 (UTC)
