Randy, I removed your reference to excellent range factors because they weren't. The 2.29 listed as league-average on the BR site refers to all outfielders. In that context, a 2.61 for a center fielder really isn't that impressive. Bear that in mind when using BR range factors for that era (or any time before the last decade or so) - --Mischa 21:25, 10 August 2006 (EDT)

OK, excellent point. That didn't occur to me. - Randy 21:28 10 August 2006 (EDT)

Range factors are a tricky thing even under the best of circumstances. Richie Ashburn has 6 of the top 10 all time PO marks for outfielders. While he was an excellent outfielder, this says as much about Robin Roberts as it does about Ashburn. Lots of assists for infielders could just mean groundball pitchers etc. --Just me 14:17, 22 August 2006 (EDT)

slant of article[edit]

I'm just curious why we are bothering to go into a run down of his ability as a player. Not really the goal of the bullpen it seems to me.

If done in an even-handed fashion, I think it is a positive addition. Especially if it's a long career-length article (ex. Tuffy Rhodes, Andruw Jones), a conclusive summary that wraps it all up and puts it in context is helpful. On the other hand, some of these analyses become targeted by fans of a given player and there are a lot of rollbacks - ex. Jim Rice, Jack Morris. Sometimes I don't think the monitors always catch the last change - I haven't looked at Rice's article lately and it wouldn't surprise me if his devotees got the last changes. - --Mischa (talk) 11:29, 24 April 2014 (EDT)
