Biographical Information

Tai-Yong Kuo played in the Chinese Professional Baseball League for 7 years. He is a cousin of Chih-Sheng Lin and the brother of Tai-Chi Kuo.

Kuo was drafted by the China Trust Whales in the first round of the 2002 CPBL Draft and went 0 for 4 that year with the club. In 2003, he hit .258/.274/.398 and stole 9 bases in 11 tries. He batted .273/.316/.398 in '04, playing almost every day. In 2005, he slumped to .224/.326/.296. He was even worse the next year, when his batting line was .187/.237/.252. He rebounded in the 2007 when he produced at a .292/.341/.379 rate. In 2008, Kuo hit .308/.383/.479 for the best season of his career. Through that year, his batting line in the CPBL was .267/.326/.381. When the Whales folded due to a gambling scandal, Kuo was left without a pro team and returned to amateur baseball. He was four for 18 with a double for Taiwan in the 2009 World Port Tournament and was cut from the roster for the 2009 Asian Championship but returned for the 2009 Baseball World Cup. He hit .225/.304/.475 in the World Cup.

Overall, Kuo hit .267/.326/.381 with 282 hits and 47 doubles in 7 seasons in the CPBL.
