Biographical Information[edit]

Submariner Tae-yang Lee pitched in the KBO and for the South Korean national team before his career ended due to a game-fixing scandal.

Lee was drafted by the Nexen Heroes in the 2nd round of the 2011 KBO draft, and he pitched 5 games with a 4.76 ERA in his rookie year. He only pitched 4 games with a 6.00 ERA in 2012, then the NC Dinos selected him in the expansion draft. Lee was 4-8 with a 5.67 ERA in 2013, and he had a 6.46 ERA in 9 games in 2014. Lee broke out in 2015, and he went 10-5 with a 3.67 ERA as a regular starter for the Dinos. He then represented South Korea in the 2015 Premier 12. Lee relieved Kyu-min Woo in the 7th inning against Venezuela, and he struck out all three batters he faced (Ray Olmedo, Gregorio Petit and Frank Díaz) to close out a win. He then started against Mexico, but he allowed 2 runs in 3 innings. [1] He had been on South Korea one year after the younger Tae-young Lee. This Lee was 2-2 with a 4.21 ERA in his first 10 starts of the 2016 season, but his professional career suddenly ended after he was reported to have been involved in a game-fixing scandal, allegedly allowing first-inning batters to reach at the behest of a gambler. [2] He was banned for life by the league, and he was also finned 20 million won.

Overall, Lee was 16-17 with a 4.48 ERA, struck out 204 in 283 innings in 6 seasons in the KBO.
