Biographical Information

Outfielder Stu Pederson played briefly in the majors with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

After attending USC, Pederson was selected by the Dodgers in the ninth round of the 1981 amateur draft. He made his pro debut that summer with the Lodi Dodgers, hitting a home run in his first at-bat. He hit .368 with 8 home runs that year, and clubbed another clutch homer, a walk-off shot, in Game 5 of the California League Championship Series against the Visalia Oaks, to give Lodi the league crown.

Pederson quickly advanced through the Dodgers chain, hitting over .300 at several stops: .336 for the Vero Beach Dodgers in 1982, .308 for the San Antonio Dodgers in 1983, and .328 for the Albuquerque Dukes in 1985. He earned a September call-up to the bigs in 1985 and got into 8 major league games that fall, going hitless and scoring a run in 4 at-bats. He remained in the Los Angeles organization through 1987, but never got another shot at the majors. He signed as a free agent with the Toronto Blue Jays system in April 1988 and spent his final five seasons with the Syracuse Chiefs. He was inducted into the Syracuse Baseball Wall of Fame in 2012.

Since his playing days, Pederson has coached high school baseball and run a ticket business. His son, Joc Pederson, reached the big leagues with the Dodgers in 2014. Another son, Tyger Pederson, has been a minor league player and coach.
