Steve Traylor won almost 800 games as a college coach.
Traylor played football, basketball and baseball in college. He was assistant coach at Otterbein College for a few years in the 1970s. In 1976, he became basketball coach at Greensboro College. He was on staff at Boca Raton Academy when was hired to start the baseball program at Florida Atlantic University in 1981. He won 286 games in 7 years there. He then was head coach of Duke University from 1988-1999, winning 356 games. He was named Atlantic Coast Conference Coach of the Year in 1992. From 2000-2007, he was head coach of Wofford College, before retiring with over 140 wins there. He also taught physical education at Wofford. He was 769-667-3 overall at the time he announced his retirement.
Traylor coached Chris Capuano, Scott Schoeneweis and other future major leaguers as well as Pat Murphy.
