Biographical Information[edit]
Steve Gajkowski had one season in the major leagues, and many seasons in the minors.
An 18th round draft pick by the Cleveland Indians in the 1990 amateur draft, he was relased by them in 1992, and signed by the Chicago White Sox. After going 5-6 with a 3.94 ERA as a reliever in Triple A at Nashville in 1996, the White Sox released him. The Seattle Mariners put him at Tacoma in Triple A in 1997 and 1998, where he went 5-3 with a 3.87 ERA in 1997, and then became a fireman in 1998, getting 24 saves in 53 games with a 2.57 ERA. It was in 1998 that he got a chance to pitch in the majors, getting into 9 games for the Mariners.
In 1999, he was in the Chicago Cubs organization, in Triple A at Iowa, with a 5-8 record and a 3.73 ERA and 9 saves. In 2000, for Midland in the Double A Texas League in the Oakland Athletics organization, he had a 4.50 ERA with a 1-1 record and 1 save for part of the season. The rest of the season he was in Triple A at Sacramento, getting 5 saves with a 4.09 ERA and a 3-3 record.
