Biographical Information[edit]
Sherry Smith had a good 14-year major league career with three teams, winning 114 games.
He had cups of coffee with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1911 and 1912 before coming to the Brooklyn Robins for his greatest success from 1915 to 1922. He was a key factor on both pennant-winning teams in 1916 and 1920, and posted an ERA of 0.89 in 30.3 innings of World Series play. Near the end of the 1922 season, the Cleveland Indians took him off waivers and he spent the rest of his major league career with them.
Smith came to the Robins in 1915 at least partly because of Jeff Pfeffer, who had played with Smith in the minors and who touted him to the Robins.
He later managed the Cedartown Braves and Cedartown Sea Cows.
Notable Achievements[edit]
- AL Complete Games Leader (1925)
- 200 Innings Pitched Seasons: 4 (1916, 1917, 1924 & 1925)
