Until 1932, the team was officially known as the Brooklyn Base Ball Association or the Brooklyn Club for short. During that time the press would refer to the team by various nicknames. From 1914 to 1931, Brooklyn's National League team was known as the Brooklyn Robins. The name was given by journalists in honor of manager Wilbert Robinson. The team was known as the Brooklyn Dodgers before and after that period, and is now often referred to under that name during the peiod when they were more widely called the Robins. The last surviving player from the Brooklyn Robins was Al Lopez, who died in 2005.
