Biographical Information[edit]

Sheng-Ping Chen has played in the minor leagues and for the Taiwanese national team.

Chen was signed by the Arizona Diamondbacks with a $300,000 signing bonus on July 4, 2019.[1] Due to the Coronavirus in 2020 (which caused the cancellation of minor league baseball), Chen didn't play any games that season and made his professional debut on May 5, 2021 with Visalia Rawhide. The middle infielder hit .188/.276/.299 in 2021, then recorded a .222/.288/.322 batting line in 2022. He also represented Taiwan in the 2021 U-23 Baseball World Cup, hitting .182/.280/.318 and handling 20 chances error-free as their starting second baseman. [2] He then returned in the 2022 U-23 Baseball World Cup to bat .227/.261/.364. [3] The 22-year-old infielder was promoted to the Hillsboro Hops in 2023, but he still struggled and hit .207/.297/.298 there. He was even demoted to the Arizona Complex League in July. After coming back from that rookie league, Chen bounced back and the Diamondbacks moved him to the AA Amarillo Sod Poodles; he hit .233/.340/.442 there.

The Taitung native was on Taiwan's roster for the 2023 Asian Championship. He pinch-hit for Chi-Hung Liu against Palestine, and hit an infield single against Ahmad Ghouleh. He didn't get many chances, only pinch-hitting once against The Philippines and Japan, and he didn't have another hit. Taiwan was beaten by Japan in the championship and won Silver in the event.[4]
