Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Seuly Matias was signed by the Kansas City Royals as a 17-year-old international amateur free agent before the 2016 season. He played that season for the DSL Royals and the AZL Royals, hitting .125 in 7 games in his native country, and .250 in 46 games in the Arizona League. In 2017, he moved to the Burlington Royals of the Appalachian League where he hit .243 with 7 homers and 36 RBIs in 57 games. After that relatively tame debut, he exploded in 2018 with the Lexington Legends of the South Atlantic League and by mid-July was leading the organized minors with 26 home runs in spite of hitting just 19. He was named to the World Team for the 2018 Futures Game, where he was the starting DH and clean-up hitter. In his first at-bat in the 2nd inning, he took Justus Sheffield deep on a fastball approaching 100 mph, to confirm his status as one of the best young power hitters in the game.
