La Isabela is located in Puerto Plata province in the northern Dominican Republic, on the Atlantic Ocean 30 miles northwest of Puerto Plata, Puerto Plata. It was the second settlement founded by Christopher Columbus on Hispaniola, dating back to 1493, and was named after Queen Isabela of Spain. Seuly Matias was born here.
