Biographical Information[edit]

OF/1B Seth Beer was drafted by the Houston Astros in the 1st round of the 2018 amateur draft out of Clemson University with the 28th overall pick. He had an outstanding college career, being named the Louisville Slugger Freshman Player of the Year in 2016, and also winning the Dick Howser Trophy as the top collegiate player that same year.

He played for three different team in his first pro season in 2018, ending up with a combined batting line of .304/.389/.496 in 67 games, with 12 homers and 42 RBIs. He began 2019 with the Fayetteville Woodpeckers of the Carolina League, but after hitting .328 in his first 35 games, he was promoted to the AA Corpus Christi Hooks of the Texas League. He continued to hit well at the higher level, with a .299 average, 16 homers and 52 RBIs in 63 games. He was considered the top position player prospect in the Astros organization and on July 31st, he was traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks alongside J.B. Bukauskas, Corbin Martin and Josh Rojas, to acquire All-Star starting pitcher Zack Greinke.

He made his major league debut for the Diamondbacks on September 10, 2021, as a pinch-hitter for Christian Walker in the 8th inning of a game against the Seattle Mariners, and promptly homered off Diego Castillo to bring the D-Backs within one run, at 5-4. However, that was the game's final score. Overall, he went 4 for 9 with a double and a homer in his first cup of coffee in The Show. He then made the Diamondbacks' Opening Day roster in 2022 and was the hero of the season's first game on April 7th against the San Diego Padres. He started at DH, batting 8th. The D-Backs entered the bottom of the 9th trailing 2-0, but a pair of walks and a hit batsman loaded the bases for him. Craig Stammen threw a wild pitch during the at-bat, allowing a first run to score, and he then ended the game with a long ball to right field, driving in three runs for the first walk-off homer of his career, sealing a 4-2 win. Of course, the game was played on "National Beer Day". He also became the first rookie to hit a walk-off blast with his team trailing on Opening Day.
