Sergio Mora pitched in the minor leagues and for the Mexico national team.
Mora began his professional career with AZL Mexico in 2000, and he went 5-3 with a 5.20 ERA in his first season. He was one win behind Arizona League leaders Derrick Van Dusen and Gustavo Martínez. His ERA was 1.59 in 8 appearances for the Sultanes de Monterrey in 2002, and he was Mexico's top hurler in the 2002 Intercontinental Cup at 1-0, 0.79 with 12 K in 11 1/3 IP. The rest of the staff was 0-4 with a 9.10 ERA. He beat Juan Carlo Vigna of Italy. He was 7th in the Cup in ERA, between Patrick Beljaards and Ifreidi Coss. In the Mexican League, he went 3-0 with a 4.91 ERA in 2003. Mora also represented Mexico in the 2003 Baseball World Cup, allowing one run in 4 1/3 IP; his four games pitched tied Alejandro Chavez for the team lead. He stayed with the Sultanes in 2004 (going 6-4 with a 3.91 ERA), and he was 8-2 with a 5.18 ERA in 2005. Mora had a 6-0 record with a 3.84 ERA in 2006, but he struggled with the Algodoneros de Guasave in the winter as he went 1-6 with a 6.44 ERA. Only Francisco Rodriguez had more losses in the Mexican Pacific League. Mora surrendered 12 runs in 8 2/3 innings in 2007, and he pitched 4 innings with 8 runs allowed for the Dorados de Chihuahua in the winter.
The Mazatlan native had a 3.86 ERA in 25 games with a save in 2008, and he also recorded a 3.73 ERA in 16 appearances for the Algodoneros. Mora then went 3-4 with a 4.55 ERA in 2009, but his ERA rose to 5.55 in 16 games in the winter. He was 6-6 with a 4.92 ERA in 2010, and he struggled again in the winter as he pitched 10 games with a 5.88 ERA. Mora went 3-2 with a 6.47 ERA before moving to the Vaqueros Laguna in 2011, and he was 4-3 with a 4.91 ERA for his new team. His ERA was 5.55 in 16 games in the winter, and he went 8-9 with a 6.17 ERA for the Vaqueros in 2012. Mora recorded a 7.16 ERA in 13 games in the winter, and he pitched 5 games with a 6.98 ERA in 2013. He also went 6-6 with a 6.01 ERA for the Rieleros de Aguascalientes that season, and he was 4-2 with a 3.77 ERA in the winter.
Mora represented Mexico in the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games, going 1-0 with a 4.36 ERA and 11 K in 10 1/3 IP; as in 2002, he led Mexico in K and IP. He got the win over Guatemala's Gustavo Rehwoldt. He was second in the Games in strikeouts, two shy of Norge Luis Ruíz . He was 2-6 with a 8.10 ERA in 2014, and he pitched 14 games with a 2.25 ERA for the Yaquis de Obregon in the winter. Mora was 3-4 with a 7.02 ERA for the Delfines de Ciudad del Carmen in 2015, and he went 0-8 with a 7.11 ERA in 2016. That was his last season as a professional player.
