Biographical Information[edit]

Sen Yang was a second baseman in the CPBL and the TML for 9 years. He is related to Chung-Shou Yang, Chien-Fu Yang, Cheng-Wei Chang, Chih-Yuan Chen and Tai-Shan Chang.

Yang debuted as a pro with the 2000 Taichung Agan, hitting .252/.317/.332 and stole 19 bases. In 2001, he hit .279/.363/.379 and won the Taiwan Major League Gold Glove at shortstop. He was Taiwan's backup second baseman in the 2001 Baseball World Cup, going 1 for 5; he struggled defensively, making 2 errors in 3 chances. Yang served in the Taiwan military in 2002-2003 and also played for their baseball team. In the 2002 Haarlem Baseball Week, he went 1 for 11 with a walk. During the 2003 World Port Tournament, Yang was 2 for 17 and made four errors in 21 fielding opportunities.

The Taitung native was drafted by the Macoto Cobras in the 11th round of the 2003 CPBL Draft and the he was soon traded to the Uni-President Lions for Sheng-Chieh Hsu. He returned to the pro ranks in 2004, and he hit .294/.372/.384 with 19 steals to win his first Best Ten as a shortstop. He was 5th in batting (.083 behind Cheng-Min Peng), 4th in hits (11 behind Peng) and 6th in steals (12 behind Chao-Hang Cheng). Yang hit .143/.226/.214 in the 2004 Taiwan Series, and the Lions were beaten by the Sinon Bulls in 7 games. He had his best season in 2005 when he batted .302/.382/.389 and swiped 25 bases. He led the CPBL in both steals and hits (121) and made the Best Ten as a second baseman this time. Yang also attended the 2005 CPBL All-Star Game, and he was 0-for-1.

In the 2006 World Baseball Classic, Yang struck out against Jae Seo in his only at-bat and made an error in the field in his lone game at second base. In the 2006 season, he hit .268/.345/.375 for the Lions and won another Best Ten. He was 0-for-1 in the 2006 CPBL All-Star Game, and he hit .222/.300/.333 in the 2006 Taiwan Series. The Lions beat the La New Bears in 7 games. During the 2007 CPBL season, Yang batted .296/.396/.416. He won his fourth Best Ten in a row, and he took home his first CPBL Gold Glove as a second baseman. He then came up back in game 7 of the 2007 Taiwan Series, getting a key hit to help the Lions take home the title. His batting line was .308/.379/.385 in the whole series. He represented Taiwan in the 2007 Asian Championship, going 1 for 4 with a walk and a time hit by pitch while backing up Chih-Sheng Lin at second base.

Yang was still solid in 2008, hitting .305/.394/.405 and won his fifth Best Ten. He was 1-for-2 in the 2008 CPBL All-Star Game, and he hit .261/.320/.304 to help the Lions won the 2008 Taiwan Series. However, the 2008 season was his last productive season. Yang slumped to .241/.368/.321 in 2009, and his batting line fell to .224/.284/.306 in 2010. The Lions released Yang after the 2010 season, and his professional career ended.

Overall, Yang hit .280/.364/.375 with 727 hits, 130 doubles and 100 steals in 9 seasons in the CPBL and the TML.
