Biographical Information

Outfielder Scott Reid played briefly in the majors and later became a Detroit Tigers executive.

After attending Arizona State University (right after Reggie Jackson had been there), Reid was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 1967 amateur draft and hit .326 for the Tidewater Tides in 1968. He had cups of coffee in the majors with the Phillies in 1969 and 1970, appearing in 38 big league games over the two seasons. Overall, he played seven years in the minors, five at the AAA level (and four of those with the Eugene Emeralds).

After his playing career, Reid was Toledo Mud Hens coach in 1974 and 1975. He then became a Phillies scout and was responsible for signing Mike Maddux and Kelly Downs. He joined the Chicago Cubs organization in 1983 and went on to serve as a scout, director of scouting, and a player consultant in eight years with the club. He joined the newly-created Florida Marlins in 1992 as a scout and later served as assistant to General Manager Dave Dombrowski. He followed Dombrowski to the Tigers in 2002 as vice president/assistant to the GM, and the next year was promoted to Vice President of Player Personnel, a position he held through 2016. Reid then served as Senior Advisor to the Tigers starting with the 2017 season. Reid passed away in 2021 at age 74.

Reid's son Brian Reid was an area scout for the Detroit Tigers and later for the New York Mets. His daughter, Lindsay Reid Clouser, is Senior Director of Product Communications for Major League Baseball.
