Biographical Information

Scott Pace peaked at AAA.

Pace was taken by the New York Yankees in the 55th round of the 1989 amateur draft but did not sign. He was at LSU as a freshman in 1991, then was 4-1 with a 5.40 ERA in 1992 for South Carolina. He improved to 3-3, 2.82 as a junior and was 9-4 with a 4.82 ERA his senior year. The

Undrafted out of college, he signed with the Florida Marlins. He posted a 3-7, 4.08 record for the 1994 Elmira Pioneers, tying for 6th in the New York-Penn League in losses (two of the three he tied with wound up in the majors). He was then the player to be named later in a deal with the Toronto Blue Jays for former prospect Eddie Zosky.

In 1995, he was lights-out with the Hagerstown Suns (4-2, Sv, 1.09 in 11 G, 57 K, 11 BB, 32 H in 57 2/3 IP) and 6-8 with a 4.57 ERA for the Knoxville Smokies. He was 5th in the Jays chain in wins and tied for 5th in losses. In 1996, he bounced between the Dunedin Blue Jays (6 Sv, 1.78 ERA in 19 G), Knoxville (2-0, 3.00 in 4 G) and the Syracuse Chiefs (3-3, 5.05 in 20 G). He walked 46 in 94 innings.

In the minor league portion of the 1996 Rule V Draft, the Milwaukee Brewers claimed Pace. He split the following summer between the El Paso Diablos (0-5, 5.92 ERA, 1.79 WHIP in 41 G) and Tucson Toros (2 R in 5 2/3 IP). That ended his pro career at 18-25, 3.96 with 7 saves in 128 games (44 starts). In 395 2/3 IP, he allowed 399 hits and 168 walks while fanning 278.
