Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Scott Klingenbeck played parts of four years in the majors.

Klingenbeck was first selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 57th round of the 1989 amateur draft but did not sign. Later that summer, he went 1-0 with 1 run (unearned) in 6 innings in the 1989 World Junior Championship to help the USA win Gold. The following year, he allowed 7 runs in 6 1/3 IP for Team USA in the 1990 Baseball World Cup, but 4 of them were unearned. He was then taken by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 60th round of the 1991 amateur draft, but once again, he did not sign. Finally, he was chosen by the Baltimore Orioles in the fifth round of the 1992 amateur draft. He soon signed and made his pro debut that season with the Kane County Cougars, going 3-4 with a 2.63 ERA in 11 starts.

Klingenback spent most of 1994 with the AA Bowie Baysox but made one major league appearance that summer. In his big league debut on June 2nd, he started against the Detroit Tigers, giving up 3 earned runs over 7 innings to get the win. He went 2-2 with a 4.88 ERA in 6 appearances for the O's in 1995 before being dealt to the Minnesota Twins in July as part of the deal that brought Scott Erickson to Baltimore. In 18 outings for the Twins that year, he was 0-2 with an 8.57 ERA. He spent most of 1996 with the Salt Lake Buzz, for whom he was 9-3 with a 3.11 ERA in 22 starts. He struggled in 10 appearances for the Twins that year, however, going 1-1 with a 7.85 ERA.

Klingenback was acquired by the Cincinnati Reds early in 1997, and he spent the majority of the year with the Indianapolis Indians, posting a 12-8 record in 27 starts. He was back in the majors with the Reds in 1998, going 1-3 with a 5.96 ERA in 4 starts, but was released in July. He finished the year in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization.
