The Hyogo native was 12-13 with a 3.55 ERA in 1972, and he tied Takenori Emoto and Yoshimasa Takahashi for 7th in losses. After being named the opening day starter for 3 straight years, Emoto replaced him in 1973, and Nishioka was 12-8 with a 2.93 ERA this season. He ranked 7th in wins (tied with N. Takahashi, Emoto, Satoshi Niimi, Takashi Mizutani and Shigeo Ishii) and 8th in innings (between Hisashi Yamada and Ishii). He was also selected into the 1973 NPB All-Star Game, and he pitched 3 shutout innings against the Central League. In the 1973 Nippon Series, Nishioka pitched an inning in Game 4, then he was named the starter of Game 5. He allowed 2 runs in 2 innings due to Sadaharu Oh's home run, and the Hawks were beaten by the Yomiuri Giants.
Nishioka was 3-6 with a 3.96 ERA in 1974, then he only pitched 5 games in 1975 due to injuries. He had a conflict with manager Katsuya Nomura after this season, so he was traded to the Chunichi Dragons for Tetsuya Fujisawa and Hidetaka Hoshino. Nishioka only pitched 5 games for the Dragons in 1975, then he was traded to the Yakult Swallows for cash. After having a 4.00 ERA in 15 games in 1977, Nishioka announced his retirement in 1978 as he missed this season due to a shoulder injury.
Overall, Nishioka was 62-62 with a 3.36 ERA, struck out 368 and pitched 1,074 innings in 9 years in NPB.
