Biographical Information[edit]

Yasuo Minagawa played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 6 years. His father is NPB infielder Sadayuki Minagawa.

Minagawa was drafted by the Toei Flyers in the fifth round of the 1970 NPB draft, and he soon joined their rotation as a rookie. He was 11-14 with a 3.44 ERA, and won the PL Rookie of the Year Award. In fact he collected 10 wins before the All-Star Game, but only added one more wins because of sciatica. he pitched a shutout inning in 1971 NPB All-Star Game 1, then started and collected a shutout inning in Game 3.

The Shizuoka native suffered a shoulder injury in 1972, so he only went 1-3 with a 4.60 ERA in that season and missed the entire 1973 season. Minagawa came back as he went 8-6 and collected 10 saves with a 2.20 ERA in 1973, but he then slumped to 2-2 with a 4.60 ERA in 1974. The Flyers then traded him with Satoshi Niimi, Junzo Uchida and Toshihiko Kosaka to the Hiroshima Carp for Kazushi Saeki, Yukinobu Miyamoto and Toshimi Kubo. However, Minagawa only pitched 3 more games with the big club for the Carp, then announced his retirement after the Satoshi 1979 season.

Overall, Minagawa was 26-28, collected 12 saves with a 3.46 ERA, struck out 206 and pitched 466 1/3 innings in 6 years in the NPB.
