Biographical Information[edit]

Ryuta Konno has pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball.

Konno was drafted by the Rakuten Golden Eagles in the 9th round of the 2013 NPB draft, but he mainly stayed in the NPB Farm Leagues in his first 6 seasons; he only got 15 appearances with the big club. The Golden Eagles released him after the 2019 season, and the Yakult Swallows picked him up. Konno pitched 20 games with a 2.84 ERA in 2020, and he broke out in 2021. He notched 28 holds with a 2.76 ERA in 64 appearances, and he was 5th in the Central League in holds (between Edwin Escobar and Yasuaki Yamasaki) and 4th in appearances (8 behind Noboru Shimizu). He pitched 2/3 of a shutout inning in 2021 Nippon Series Game 5, and the Swallows beat the Orix Buffaloes in 6 games. Konno received a vote in the CL MVP Voting.

The Miyagi native pitched 51 games with a 3.72 ERA in 2022, and he also notched 16 holds. He pitched 2 shutout innings in the 2022 Nippon Series Game 2, and he added a shutout inning in Game 4. The Swallows lost to the Buffaloes this time in 7 games. Konno's ERA was 3.77 in 26 games in 2023, but he only pitched 6 games with the big club in 2024. He was then traded back to the Golden Eagles for cash.
