Rubi Koko played four years in the minors and then moved to Hoofdklasse.

Koko played on the Senior League champions in 2002 alongside Jair Jurrjens, Hainley Statia, Shairon Martis, Curt Smith and Sharlon Schoop. He was signed by the Atlanta Braves and debuted professionally in their system in 2004, hitting .125/.195/.221 with 62 strikeouts in 104 AB for the GCL Braves. In 2005, he batted .221/.346/.389 for the DSL Braves with 14 steals in 14 tries. He whiffed in 58 of 131 AB.

Koko split 2006 between the Rome Braves (1 for 25, 15 K, 2 BB) and GCL Braves (.264/.347/.373, 10 for 12 in SB). He led the Gulf Coast League's outfielders with a 1.000 fielding percentage. He was let go by the Braves and signed by the San Diego Padres. He hit .174/.195/.275 with 47 strikeouts in 109 AB for the 2007 Idaho Falls Chukars.

Koko then went to the Netherlands, joining Sparta/Feyenoord. He dazzled in Eerste Klasse, hitting .594 with two inside-the-park home runs and 12 RBI in 34 AB, stole 13 bases and scored 16 runs in just seven games. That earned him a call-up to Hoofdklasse, where he debuted on April 27 and drew a walk as a pinch-hitter.
