Biographical Information

Roy "Dixie" Walker is not to be confused with Ewart "Dixie" Walker or Fred "Dixie" Walker. Roy played six seasons in the majors as a pitcher, but made his debut in 1912 several months after the other pitcher, Ewart "Dixie" Walker had made his last major league appearance.

Roy pitched in 13 games for the Chicago Cubs in 1918, a team that won the National League pennant, but he did not appear in the 1918 World Series.

Roy played at least 12 seasons in the minors, winning 163 games. He spent all or part of nine seasons at New Orleans, and many years later died in New Orleans, LA. The book Baseball in New Orleans has a photo of him as part of the 1923 New Orleans Pelicans team, referring to him as Dixie Walker. Joe Martina was another star pitcher on the team.

Roy might have played against Ewart "Dixie" Walker's brother Ernie Walker, since both Roy and Ernie were in the Southern Association in 1913.

Unlike Ewart "Dixie" Walker, who was born in Pennsylvania, Roy "Dixie" Walker was actually born in Dixie - in Lawrenceburg, TN, in southern Tennessee near the Alabama border. Both of the pitchers known as Dixie Walker died in the South.
