Biographical Information[edit]

Corner infielder Ron Walker played in the Chicago Cubs minor league system from 1997 to 2000 and appeared briefly in independent ball in 2001.

He was taken by the Cubs in the 8th round of the 1997 amateur draft, one pick ahead of outfielder Adam Piatt and two picks ahead of All-Star pitcher Cliff Lee. He was signed by scout Billy Swoope. He began his professional career by hitting .348/.416/.554 with 10 home runs and 44 RBI in 58 games between the Williamsport Cubs and Rockford Cubbies. The next season, he hit .286/.378/.549 with 24 home runs and 78 RBI for the Daytona Cubs. He was two home runs shy of Shawn Gallagher for the Florida State League lead. He reached the mid-minors in 1999 and struggled and never regained his form. After leaving the Cubs system in 2000, Walker spent a game with the independent New Jersey Jackals in 2001 to wrap up his career. He hit .271/.360/.460 with 50 home runs and 200 RBI in 362 games over five seasons.

He died on April 16, 2004 at 28 years old in a car crash.
