Biographical Information

Rigo Beltrán pitched parts of five seasons in the major leagues. He saw his most substantial action in his rookie season with the St. Louis Cardinals. He made 35 appearances (4 starts) for the Cards in 1997, recording his lone big league save against the Montreal Expos on August 27th. He moved to the New York Mets in the off-season for Juan Acevedo and made his final big league appearance with the Colorado Rockies in 2004. In international play, with the Mexican national team, Beltrán beat the Cuban national team in the 2003 Pan American Games, their only loss of the competition.

Rigo was the pitching coach of the GCL Reds in 2007-2008 and was originally announced as the pitching coach for the 2009 Dayton Dragons, but was re-assigned to the Carolina Mudcats before the season. He was pitching coach for the Lynchburg Hillcats in 2010 and Bakersfield Blaze in 2011-2013. Moving to the Cleveland Indians' chain, Beltrán was pitching coach of the Lake County Captains in 2014. He began 2015 assigned to the AZL Indians but was reassigned to Lynchburg on June 12th where he stayed through the 2017 season. He coached pitchers for the Mexico national baseball team in the 2017 World Baseball Classic. Beltran was the pitching coach for the Akron RubberDucks in 2018 and Columbus Clippers in 2019. After the 2018 season he also coached the Glendale Desert Dogs in the Arizona Fall League. Beltran was scheduled to coach Columbus in 2020 before the season was cancelled due to COVID-19. He was pitching coach of Columbus in 2021-2022.

In 2023, Beltran became a major league coach for the first time as bullpen coach of the Cleveland Guardians but only stayed for one season. He returned to the minors as a pitching coach of the Harrisburg Senators in 2024.

Beltran also tried his hand at coaching in the Venezuelan League with the Tiburones de La Guaira during the 2021/2022 season. Unfortunately, he was fired on 11/25/2021 along with manager Dennis Malave after a 10-16 start to the season.
