Biographical Information[edit]

Richie Rowland is the son of major league catcher Rich Rowland. He was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 40th round of the 2007 amateur June draft. Passing on Colorado's offer, Richie played two years at Santa Rosa Junior College. He then attended Campbellsville University as a junior and was the starting catcher on the club where he played in all 52 games, one win away from attending the College World Series.

Richie was then signed as a free agent by the Arizona Diamondbacks in June 2010. Assigned to the Missoula Osprey, he was leading the league in hitting as of early August, hovering around the .400 mark for batting average and finished at .291 in 67 games, playing mostly DH, with a few games as a catcher and at first base. It was his only professional season, however.

His brother, Robby Rowland, was drafted by the Diamondbacks in the 3rd round (88th Overall), in the 2010 amateur draft and had a long career as a pitcher in the minors.
