Biographical Information[edit]

Reliever Rich Bristow pitched in the New York Mets system from 1988 to 1991 and in independent baseball in 1994.

He was drafted by the Mets in the 32nd round of the 1988 amateur draft out of high school, one pick before John Cummings and began his professional career that year. In 13 appearances for the GCL Mets, he was 2-3 with an 8.31 ERA. He allowed 29 hits, 27 runs and 16 earned runs in 17 1/3 innings. With the GCL Mets again in 1989, Bristow improved to 3-3 with 5 saves and a 2.78 ERA in 19 games (four starts). He pitched for the Kingsport Mets in 1990 and went 3-3 with 8 saves and a 2.92 ERA in 26 appearances. He tied for 5th in the Appalachian League in saves. In 1991, with the Columbia Mets, he was 2-0 with a 3.21 ERA in 29 games. He did not play in 1992 or 1993, though he returned in 1994 with the independent Champaign-Urbana Bandits. In two games (one start), he was 1-0 with a 6.57 ERA. Ne managed the Dakota Rattlers for part of 1995.

On May 11, 2010, he died in a car accident at the age of 40.
