Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher Rhett Lowder pitched for the USA College National Team at the 2022 Haarlem Baseball Week, where he was a teammate of Dylan Crews, Wyatt Langford and Paul Skenes. He allowed one run in 6 1/3 IP. He was at Wake Forest University at the time and was drafted from there by the Cincinnati Reds with the 7th overall pick of the 2023 amateur draft, right after the aforementioned trio. He had been undersized in high school and not considered a serious prospect, but came into his own in college, going 11-3, 3.08 in 2022 and 15-0, 1.87 in 2023. He pitched in the 2023 College World Series.
He did not make his professional debut until 2024, but once there he sped through the Reds' system. He barely touched down with the Dayton Dragons of the Midwest League, going 2-0, 2.49 in 5 games, before heading to the AA Chattanooga Lookouts. In 15 games in AA, he went 4-4, 4.31 and also was selected to play for the National League team at the 2023 Futures Game. He was then promoted to the AAA Louisville Bats on August 22nd but only made one start for them, pitching 6 scoreless innings, before the Reds came calling. His major league debut came in the second game of a doubleheader against the Milwaukee Brewers on August 30th and he did not do badly, giving up just 1 run in 4 innings. However, things went south later in the game, as after a scoreless 5th inning by Sam Moll, three relievers, including back-up catcher Luke Maile, combined to give up 13 runs over the final four innings, and the 14-0 loss was pinned on him.
